Math 7+: Mathematical Reflections

Mathematical Reflections on Polygons
What are the common properties of all polygons?
Polygons are all 2D, meaning they are all on a single surface. Polygons don't have curved lines nor intersections, are all closed, and they have at least 3 vertices and angles.

What does the measure in degrees tell you about an angle? What are some common benchmark angles?
The measure of degrees tell you whether the angle is obtuse (90˚<x˚<180˚), acute (<90˚), reflex (>180˚), right (90˚), or straight (180˚), etc. Knowing how large the angle is, you may be able to figure out some of the adjacent angles. Some common angles are: right angle, 90˚, straight angle, 180˚, half of a right angle, 45˚, 3/4 of a full turn, 270˚, and the full turn, 360˚ angle.

What strategies can be used to estimate angle measures? To deduce angle measures from given information? To find accurate measurements with tools?
You can see if this angle is a supplementary or complementary with another given angle . You can also use the benchmark angles ( 45˚, 90˚, etc.) and estimate how much larger is the angle than that common angle. Another way to estimate an unknown angle is by reading the angle from initial side to terminal side and guess how big it is.
