Math: Handphone Plans

Today in Math we were asked to solve some handphone problems.

  • Plan A costs a basic fee of $29.95 per month and 10 cents per text message
  • Plan B costs a basic fee of $90.20 per month and has unlimited text messages
  • Plan C costs a basic fee of $49.95 per month and 5 cents per text message
    • All plans offer unlimited calling
    • Calling on nights and weekends are free
    • Long distance calls are included
Question 1: Find the cost of each plan assuming you text 500 texts in a month (show your working out)
Answer:
Plan A: 29.95 (basic fee) + 0.1x500 (cost for 500 texts, I converted cents into dollars) = 79.95 dollars
Plan B: 90.20 (basic fee) + 0 (unlimited text messages) = 90.20 dollars
Plan C: 49.95 (basic fee) + 0.05x500 (cost for 500 texts, I converted cents into dollars) = 74.95 dollars

Question 2: Make a visual displaying the plans so they are easy to compare with
Answer:

Red = Plan A
Blue = Plan B
Green= Plan C

Question 3: Which plans are a better buy at which number of texts sent?
Answer:
For anything number of texts sent below 1200, Plan C will be a better deal.
For anything number of texts sent equal to 1200, both Plan C and Plan A will be the best deals.
For anything number of texts sent above 1200, Plan B will be a better deal.
