Social Studies: Population Data Analysis and Trends Unit Reflection

The end of our Social Studies unit, population data analysis and trends, came to an end, and it's time to write a reflection about this unit.
============================================================
Essential Question:
What is the relevance of demographics to your life now, and how will these issues impact your life in the future?

The population demographic of the world is closely tied to my lifestyle. I grew up in Beijing, an overpopulated city. As the global population grows, the demand for metal increases, so all the cities surrounding Beijing built giant metal factories to fulfil the needs. Around 20% of the total metal in the world is produced in China, and all the pollution caused would drift to Beijing and blanket the city with PM 2.5. Beijing is a fairly developed place, with easy access to clean water, good shelters built to live in, convenient transportation (other than the subway), and tasty food, so I lived luxuriously. But, the pollution level is so high that I had to take precautions and constantly think of ways to avoid the pollution. Most recesses during Elementary school were moved indoors to this big dome my school built specifically to avoid pollution, when the pollution breaks a limit, no one goes out of their homes, and everyone wears special air-filtering masks.
Resources are depleting because so many more people are wanting to buy it, so the rarity of the items raises the price. Now, many things are really expensive making them hard to enjoy.
Studies say that the earth will become too overpopulated soon, and Mother Earth will be destroyed by us humans. The plants, animals, resources --- everything will be teared apart. However, other studies show more optimistic outcomes. They say that the reason human population grow so much is because everyone is starting to receive good health care, and death rate drops. They say that we just need to put in more effort into the environment. If we all work together, we can create the safest and more pleasant paradise to live in.
